Month: January 2018

….. and relax

Some of you may know that I have just had my hip operation and am recovering at home for a little while.  I’m taking it easy with a few magazines and some tea and muffins and enjoying the aroma of Blueberry Muffin from the wax melts we made using our new wax melt tray.  This tray makes 12 wax melts, two of each design: swirl, flower, heart, two different patterns and one plain.  We made some in pinks, purples and yellow.  How pretty would these look in a little box as a gift for someone?

I’m going to get back to my tea and magazines now.  And don’t worry, the girls in the office have got your orders covered while I’m off so it is business as usual.

Thanks for stopping by.  Hope you have a great week.

Candle Making

We often get questions from people starting out making candles for some tips on how best to use our candle moulds so I have put together a little tutorial.

Cut a piece of wick long enough to go through the mould and allowing extra at both the top and bottom.  Put the wick through the hole in the base of the mould and secure with a piece of blutac, this will hold the wick in place and prevent the wax from leaking out.

Turn the mould upright and spray the inside with mould release spray or coat with a little olive oil.

Place a wick holder across the top of the mould and secure the wick.

Heat the wax and then add the colour.

Turn the temperature down and add the fragrance if you are using it.

Allow the wax to cool a little before pouring into the mould.

Allow the wax to cool and set fully before removing from mould.

And there you have your finished candle.  This is by no means a comprehensive tutorial on candle making but hopefully it will get you started without too many problems.  Any of our readers who have more experience in candle making, if you have any tips you could share, we’d love to hear from you.

Thanks for stopping by.  Hope you have a great week.

Plastic fantastic???

The hot topic at the moment is plastic or, more specifically, the recycling of plastic.  I’m sure you have all read in the newspapers and heard on the news these last few weeks the concerns for the amount of plastic waste building up in the UK since China’s ban on importing the millions of tonnes of plastic they previously took from our small island.

The concept of reducing plastic waste and recycling is nothing new to us here at Proops. Our parent company, Linic Plastics, who make a lot of the tools we sell, have been recycling their own scrap and buying in hundreds of tons of reprocessed polymer for over 35 years. Wherever suitable, recycled material is used and our products are then packed in minimal packaging. The use of mixed material and difficult to recycle packaging is kept to a bare minimum.

Look for the logo on the products which we make from recycled plastic.

Lost in the post ………

Lost in the post …. does that sound familiar?  Unfortunately the Postie is usually the first to get the blame whenever any packages go missing and, as a company who receive and send lots of parcels, we understand that it can be frustrating and difficult for them when things are addressed incorrectly, but we really had to chuckle when we received this package back in the office this week with a sticker saying it couldn’t be delivered because the address was incomplete…. errrm, is that perhaps because whatever machine it got stuck in at the Post Office destroyed the address label (and bent the scraper)?

Don’t worry, no Post Office staff were hurt in the making of this blog post and the rightful owner of the pastry scraper has received a nice new (flat) one.

Hope this brings a smile to your day!  Thanks for stopping by.

Love is in the air ……..

Our newest candle mould is here just in time for Valentine’s Day.  This heart shaped pillar mould would make a perfect gift for your candle-making Valentine or if you are a candle maker, what better way to say ‘I love you’ than with heart shaped candles lighting your room, perhaps even scented with some of the lovely spring flower scents available.

Of course, these candles aren’t only for Valentine’s Day, hearts are the perfect way to say I love you for any occasion, or even not for a specific event but just because.

If you like keeping up with current trends why not make some in Ultra Violet, the pantone colour of the year.  They would make the perfect decorative finishing touch for your room.

And here’s a little sneak peak at our latest wax melt mould which is just about to go into production.  These will be available soon, so do keep popping back to our candle mould section and have a look.

Thanks for stopping by.  Have a great week.

January Blues ….. and Yellows and Reds and Greens

I hope the first week of the year has been kind to you and you are easing back into your routines.  Have you all made lots of resolutions and plans for 2018?  I don’t do New Year’s resolutions, it’s too depressing when the diet fails or the bad habits restart before I’ve gotten through my first full week back in the office and sometimes those bad habits are the only things which get me through the long days of January – it really is my least favourite month, dark and cold and summer holidays seem a long, long way off.

I have been cheering myself up with some lovely bright colours here in the office in the shape of our new macrame rings.  We are now producing these in blue, green, yellow and red and they can be used for loads of crafting projects other than macrame.  They are also great for young children for stacking, sorting and for use in heuristic or treasure baskets.  As they are made from plastic, they are easy to wipe clean and there are no sharp edges or danger of splinters to hurt small fingers and mouths.   Pop over to our craft section and have a look, they are sure to cheer up a dull day!

Thanks for stopping by. Have a great week.
