Looking for something to keep the kids occupied during half-term?  We have lots of craft ideas on our Instagram and Facebook pages if you are looking for some inspiration.  From baking to weaving and bag making to dreamcatchers, our wreath rings, bag handles, weaving looms and pastry scrapers are great for all sorts of crafting projects.  What about making some candles or wax melts with them?  We have a few beginners kits which contain everything you need to get started.  Our Weaving Looms also come with easy to follow instructions so all you need is wool and you are ready to go.  Or what about some of our coloured macrame rings to use in ‘make your own games’.  These would be great for hoopla and sorting games.  Our round candle moulds are brilliant for making bird feeders – make a few of these to hang in the garden then set them up with a picnic, some binoculars and some paper and pencils to make notes of the birds that come to the garden. (We have posted a homemade bird fat ball recipe if you need one, see our Instagram or Facebook pages or check our earlier blogs.)

We’d love to see what you use our craft supplies for, during half-term or any other time, so don’t forget to tag us on Instagram and Facebook or send us some photos.

Thanks for stopping by, have a great week.

Bag Handles

We now have round bag handles listed in three colours – white, black and wood effect.  These are made from plastic and are available in two sizes, 15cm and 20cm and are approximately 9mm thick.  The handles perfect for the summer trend for crocheted, raffia, woven and knitted bags. These are also suitable to use for macrame rings and lots of other projects.  Why not over to our website and have a look.

School’s Out for Summer

We are heading to the end of the school year and as children are preparing to move on to new classes, some people like to give the teacher a gift.   In some schools/pre-schools funding for classroom basics like bowls and glue-spreaders is not always available so instead of the usual chocolates, flowers and mugs why not give some school/pre-school supplies?  You could always get together with a few parents and put together a little ‘supplies gift basket’.  I’m sure the teachers will thank you, not only for the supplies but also for saving their waistlines from all the lovely chocolates and cakes they usually receive.

We stock scissors, paintbrushes, glue spreaders, plastic tweezers, dipping bowls, mixing bowls and lots more on our website, why not pop over and have a look.

January Blues ….. and Yellows and Reds and Greens

I hope the first week of the year has been kind to you and you are easing back into your routines.  Have you all made lots of resolutions and plans for 2018?  I don’t do New Year’s resolutions, it’s too depressing when the diet fails or the bad habits restart before I’ve gotten through my first full week back in the office and sometimes those bad habits are the only things which get me through the long days of January – it really is my least favourite month, dark and cold and summer holidays seem a long, long way off.

I have been cheering myself up with some lovely bright colours here in the office in the shape of our new macrame rings.  We are now producing these in blue, green, yellow and red and they can be used for loads of crafting projects other than macrame.  They are also great for young children for stacking, sorting and for use in heuristic or treasure baskets.  As they are made from plastic, they are easy to wipe clean and there are no sharp edges or danger of splinters to hurt small fingers and mouths.   Pop over to our craft section and have a look, they are sure to cheer up a dull day!

Thanks for stopping by. Have a great week.

Pumpkin Carving

Yesterday I was searching the kitchen drawer for a knife to use for carving the pumpkins for Halloween when I had a thought that our wood chip carving knives would be perfect for the job.  So the pumpkins came to work with me this morning so I could test the knives out. The girls in the office and I got busy and creative and we found that these were indeed the perfect tool to use.  The blade length is ideal and the handles are comfortable and easy to hold, certainly much easier to use than the kitchen carving knife!  Have a look for yourself at our efforts and see what you think. (I also used some copper wire to attach the teeth and we found that our goose neck shaped scraper was the perfect tool to scrape out the inside of the pumpkin – just one of the many benefits of working at Proops is you have access to lots of tools.)

(Please ignore all the clutter on my desk – I always have about 10 products lying around at once!)

And, the finished pumpkins:

Of course, these lovely knives are also perfect for wood whittling and carving and being carbon steel and Sheffield made they are guaranteed to last.  Our set of three gives you a straight, a curved and a skewed blade – great for all sorts of detail. We also sell them individually.

What we used:

Chip Carving Knives, Free pumpkin patterns, mixing bowls, brass wire, wood cabinet goose neck scraper.

Please be careful, these knives are very sharp and are definitely not suitable for children to use.

Thanks for stopping by. Happy carving.
