One of our customers sent us these photographs of Moire Patterns which were a Proops product from the 1970s. Nick, our customer used these with an overhead projector to send moving coloured patterns to the backdrop of his rock band – how cool is that! He told us “The roadie loved this, as he could have a beer and watch us perform while the patterns changed”. Nick’s children and grandchildren have also enjoyed using these over the years. How great to hear how these were used and that they are still in use today. Certainly made to last!
We love to hear your stories of the Proops products over the years, we certainly sold some unusual things. Lots of our customers reminisce about the Tottenham Court Road days and though we are no longer in the same location, our ethos and service remains the same. Our warehouse in Leicestershire still has some of the original stock from back in those days and we have long been a go-to for those tools you just can’t find anywhere else.
If you have any memories you’d like to share, we love you to get in touch.
Thanks for stopping by. Hope you have a great week.
We are gearing up for some bad weather in the area over the next few days. This is the view from my office window this morning, not quite the prediced 15cm of snow they are forecasting yet but we are expecting a lot more later this week. One of the advantages of being based in a village which supplies more than 90% of our workforce is that most of our staff walk to work and can still get here in bad weather. We may be a little chilly and snow-covered when we arrive but we are a dedicated bunch here at Proops and it takes more than a little snow to stop us processing your orders. Now all we need is the post van to make it through the blizzards! We will keep you informed if we are notified by our couriers or Royal Mail if there are any delays to deliveries.
If you are in the path of the ‘Beast from the East’ stay safe and warm. Thanks for stopping by.
We have the loveliest customers!! We always receive such positive feedback and support from the community of crafters, modellers and jewellery makers, etc who buy our products and as well as all the many get well messages I have received, this morning these ‘welcome back to the office’ flowers arrived from two lovely ladies who have supported Proops Brothers for a long time. They are always generous with their words about our service and products and I have been able to meet both of them at events and they are just as lovely in person!
I am very touched ladies for the flowers and your continued support. Looking forward to seeing you both at our next event.
Just a little reminder, we have been asked quite a lot recently about postage costs, all standard delivery costs to UK addresses are included in the price, there is no extra VAT or postage costs added at the checkout, the price you see is what you pay. Delivery charges only apply to next day deliveries on orders placed before 11am and some of the larger items going outwith the UK.
Thanks for stopping by. Hope you all have a great week.
We always love when we get a new shipment of tools here at Proops, it’s like Christmas has come early and we have just had a delivery arrive this week. Here’s a sneak peak at some of the things we will be photographing and listing this week. Keep checking our New Product section to see what we have, you never know you might find a great Christmas present for someone, or even a treat for yourself!
Thanks for stopping by.
I thought I might share a little of the background of Proops with you on the blog this week.
Way back in 1946 members of the Proops family opened a shop on Tottenham Court Road, close to the major London shopping district. They traded in War Surplus items as well as many other clearance or job lot lines. The principal products were medical equipment and ‘technical’ items from aircraft such as instrumentation and electrical components. The shop also traded in radio spares, surplus engineering and woodworking tools. In the late 1980s Proops was bought by the current owner, Nic Burdett who has built it into a thriving company of ‘everything useful’ for hobby and modelling enthusiasts. Buying a vast array of tools and equipment, sourcing redundant lines of quality tools and designing and manufacturing craft and hobby products under the name of the sister company Linic Products, Nic has been at the heart of this family business in Fleckney, Leicestershire for over 25 years.

For many years I sold Proops products in Australia where I lived until 2007 when I moved back to the UK to join the family business and help bring Proops into the 21st Century. Adapting to changing market requirements and opportunities has been reflected in the growing product range of jewellery making tools and a greater online presence originally through our Website and Ebay and now also on Etsy and Amazon.
I’m sure some of you will remember our product catalogue but does anyone remember the Proops 1965 Science Catalogue?
We have survived a fire which destroyed part of the Linic factory and resulted in the street being evacuated! This area was rebuilt and for a few years housed Proops until two years ago when we moved again into our own warehouse providing a much larger shop for our ever growing range of tools and where you can browse at your leisure.
Throughout the years we have always endeavoured to offer outstanding value for money and a great service. We aim for most orders to go out the same day we receive them and we still offer free UK postage and a no quibble returns.
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading a little more about us here at Proops.
Thanks for stopping by. Have a great week.
One of our customers sent us this image today. How great is that! Lots of our, I don’t want to upset anyone here with my choice of wording so shall I say, more mature customers remember visiting our shop on Tottenham Court Road back in the day with their fathers or brothers or uncles. Unfortunately we no longer have this item in stock – I doubt it would get passed by the Health and Safety crew – but we have lots of other great products and we still offer free postage today!
If anyone else has any memories of Proops in Tottenham Court Road or any old articles or adverts we’d love to receive them.
Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day.
If you have a special someone to buy for who loves crafts or modelling or even just collects tools why not give them a Proops Brothers gift voucher. Vouchers are available to buy in denominations of £10, £20, £50, £100 or £200 and can be used as payment or part payment for any order placed online, by telephone or for items bought in our shop. So why not take the guess work out of trying to find something they really want or don’t already have and let them choose for themselves from our huge range of products.
Thanks for stopping by.
Did you know we have a shop, not an online virtual one, but an actual premises where you can come and browse and buy? We live in an age where online shopping has become the norm for a lot of us and don’t get me wrong, I am as guilty as the next person. There is nothing easier than sitting on your sofa with a cup of tea and a biscuit while you order your shopping to be delivered directly to you – no hassle of finding (and usually paying for!) a parking space, queuing to get served, lugging the items you have bought back to the car, then having to drive through the traffic back home again. These are all the reasons why we have brought you our online shop and we love getting your orders but sometimes there is nothing better than going and having a look and feel of something before you buy it, especially if it is something you have not bought before. Our shop has all of the items you can buy from us online – if it’s on our website, we have it in stock. We have free parking right at the door and a great team who will help you find what you are looking for and answer any questions you may have. The shop is easily accessible, no steps or stairs and the aisles are wide enough for mobility scooters and wheelchair users. And just to tempt you a little more, we offer a 10% discount on all sales made in the shop. We are based in Fleckney, a small village in Leicestershire, so if you are local or passing by why not pop in for a look, we’d love to meet you.
Our staff: Bill, Ellie, Anita and Stefan and of course one with me. Don’t you love how happy they look at work?
